What!? Still More Holiday Stuff???

Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 8:04 am 26 comments

It’s time to end my long-standing run as a delinquent parent during the holidays.  I’ve read many posts of good parents who engage in festive activities and create great memories and traditions.  Even I can be festive for once, right?

I decided to start by making candy apples.  OK, I didn’t decide.  Actually, daughter requested we follow a recipe she learned in Home Ec class and I finally got around to going to the grocery store.

We had tongue depressors from some old art project and used those instead of popsicle sticks.

We melted caramel candies to roll the apples in.  I’m still getting flack for not remembering to buy the sprinkles.  Anyway…

Next the apples  were dipped, or to be more accurate, rolled in the caramel and set aside for the caramel to set.  They tasted great!

An even bigger hit than the caramel apples was dipping pretzel sticks in the caramel.  That was yummy!

Well, what were we supposed to do with all that left over caramel?  I’ll worry about the liposuction after the holidays.  The girls seemed to enjoy this activity but the boy was conspicuously absent from the festivities.  Maybe I can get him involved in the next project.  It doesn’t involve the computer so getting a hold of him is going to be tough.  Do you have any traditional eats for the holidays?

Oh wow the caramel apples and pretzels sounds tempting even though I’ve had my lunch just now !
Traditional sweets which my mom makes are great in taste , for example there is this traditional dessert which we make is made out of wheat grain . It turns out to be very soft and delicious to eat 🙂

What fun! Every year my daughters and I make Cream Cheese Braids. They are like a cream cheese danish bread. I got the recipe for it when I was in 8th grade Home Ec!

That’s awesome how things like that from Home Ec have an impact on us all these years later.
