One Surprising Thing

Map of the Virgin Islands

I feel the need to speak up about a surprising thing that’s happened.  First of all, I will admit checking my blog stats to see which posts generate the most traffic, which states and countries readers hail from, and which searches lead readers here.  This curiousity has led to an interesting discovery.

Day in and day out, my post  “Welcome to the Virgin Islands” gets the most hits based on searches from – well, search engines.

The U.S. Virgin Islands are a popular tourist destination, especially with the cruise line industry.  Right now it’s summer in the Northern Hemisphere and people may be researching a warm place to escape to during the winter or a tropical place to while away the summer on sandy beaches.

The search engine traffic, however, is not coming from “Virgin Islands”or “Caribbean Vacation” searches.  It’s coming from searches on “hibiscus“.  Wanting to make my post look pretty, I found a google image of two yellow hibiscus which I added just under the title.  Everyday since that, I get hits from people searching for images of “hisbiscus”.  I know that it’s a popular flower… but who knew that it would be such a popular search?

This just seemed very interesting to me.  So if you haven’t read that post before, without further ado, here is an encore presentation of  Welcome to the Virgin Islands.

That is surprising! I’ve found something similar. Our most popular image is the Kirk and Uhura kiss!

I think it is funny and like you said can be very surprising as to what people search for and what brings them to your blog. My most popular search is Bear and bird feeder. I Love Hibiscus flowers I’d like to grow a Hibiscus one day. Hope the move is going well.

I wonder what the response would be to hula skirts? Golden apple and pilates were my next most popular searches.

Considering all the things people use the web for, I guess it’s refreshing to think that flowers still matter 🙂
