Should we stay or should we go?

If I list my options will I know…

How to make decisions like a pro?

Decisions.  Decisions.  Decisions.

How do you make decisions?

Do you make a list of pro’s and con’s?

Flip a coin?

Consult the magic 8 ball?

What’s your strategy?

fret, fret, fret. analyse. analyse some more. wait. re-think. ask for 10 opinions. think and rethink till last minute. and then choose what ‘feels’ right 😉

I’ve got the fret, fret, fret part down pat. Now on to the “what feels right”. 🙂 BTW thanks for coming to my blog. Hope to see you again.

Hey hon. Thought you had to go. Is there an option?

pros and cons is normally a good way to go. Or cheese doodles and introspection on the couch.

Whatever the process, involve the kids though.

Excellent point. The kids are very involved and I think that is helping them cope. This has become quite a convoluted process in that options seem to disappear and reappear. It’s all good, just tough.

Aargh. How difficult it is to choose… Sometimes I think the decisions are always obvious, it is our refusal to accept them that makes it all so impossible…
My strategy is to whine, annoy everyone around, blog about it and then when it is now or never, choose seemingly at random… but it cannot be totally random because i do get things right!
I am not very pro change so I would choose to stay and hope for the best…
    Good luck Era!

I myself am a firm believer in not fighting inertia. I am also a professional whiner. It’s always great to have options but making the choice can be such a nerve racking experience – mostly from fear of not getting it right. I love the “seemingly at random” part. I guess I’m conflicted. I am a creature of habit but sometimes I get into the rut of the mundane and a good challenge seems appealing. But what if I don’t get it right? Arrrrgh!!!

I help my *kids* make choices by helping them write a detailed pros/cons list and then discussing each point. Works great, and they always seem to be satisfied by the results.

*I*, however, make difficult choices by worrying, fretting, gnashing teeth, and rending hair (or is that rending teeth and gnashing hair?), usually while walking in circles. Then I make my excruciating choice. Next I ask my husband and promptly change my decision, since he always makes rational choices (which also always end up being good ones), and I make emotional ones (which frequently end up being lousy ones).

    🙂

I know what you mean. Having a rational spouse is always helpful. I just remembered one method. tape options to the wall and then play a version of pin the tail on the donkey! May not be particulary successful, but sounds like a good time to be had by all.

Not sound to like the execs of Corporate America… 😉 but Change is not all bad. Change is a good thing. I think the more we dwell about what we are going to miss the harder it gets to accept the move to a new place. We went through this just about 2 yrs back. The move meant my stopping my dance and music lessons business, so many kids that were learning from me, now found no teachers to continue lessons…. it was heart wrenching. Probably the worst part of the move for me. But now from where I am, looking back, we could not have a better choice. Adi is in one of the best schools in NY, Kmoo gets to be home as I work from home. Siva’s work is now only 30 mins as opposed to the 3 hr drive each day he had earlier.

I guess, all I am saying is, thing of the good things that will come with the move and take the step forward.

    Good Luck 🙂

Thanks for the encouragement. I’m glad everything worked out so well for you. Hopefully things will work out for us too. 🙂

All I can offer you is this. FWIW, it helps me think long term and put things in perspective. Doesn’t make the deciding process much easier, but it takes away some of the stress.

    “What’s your strategy?”….you ask me~~
Well, when I have to make a decision , I look at it different ways…depending on what it is I have to decide.
If I am buying something, selling something, deciding where to go on vacation, deciding who to invite over for dinner….well, you get what I mean, right? Is there a specific decision I can share with you my opinion on?
    🙂

I usually just decide spontaneously & hope it works out, or ask my wife’s advice if it’s an important decision

Spontaneously sounds good. I think too much anyway.
