Roughly pronounced poy-i-two va-rain, this Tamil phrase means: I’m going now but I’ll see you again. Pathi and Thatha (grandma and grandpa) have returned to India.
I miss hearing their favorite programs on the TV. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy are enjoyed by all of us, but somehow we just don’t watch when they aren’t here. They attended all our school programs: science fairs, concerts, award ceremonies, and graduations. We had lots of fun together.
We helped them “CHILL OUT” in New York - literally. Seriously, it was cold people! (Dec. 2008)

We took them to Washington DC but President Bush and Presidant elect Obama were nowhere to be seen – that’s why Thattha looks so cross. Next time we expect a full welcoming committee! (Jan 2009)

Finally, we took them home to Florida and thawed them out. Thatha enjoys the water jet in the pool…

while Patti enjoys some time in the spa.

We went to parties together. That’s my Mom in the blue sweater.

And sometimes we just stayed at home – and had bananas.

We miss you and look forward to seeing you again. This time we’ll come to India.

Wow. I’m always so happy when I see people from different cultures come together into the same family. And Era, given how I come from the same part of the country as your in-laws, we could very easily be related through your marriage. How cool would that be!?:)

Got to your blog from your comments in Marriageconfessions. What drew me was your last name. I’m from Chennai, TamilNadu. Thatha, patti pictures are awesome.
I’m just curious.
Where’s your hubby from? Do the kids speak Tamil?

Hi Dbals, thanks for stopping by. Hubby is from Hyderabad via Tamil Nadu/Tanjavur. The kids speak less Tamil than I do. I speak little. There are several languages that I will not go hungry in, but can’t hold a serious philosophical discussion in
